JET magazine is proud to announce the launch of the JET Digital Beauty competition, increasing the odds for the women who always coveted the title of JET Beauty. Since the publication’s inception in 1951, JET magazine always celebrated the beauty of African-American women in each issue. The JET Beauty of the Week has remained a favorite among readers throughout the years, and the publication is now expanding the franchise to the web to accommodate the growing number of online readers and social media fans.
“Our JET Beauty is consistently one of the top-ranked destinations on our site,” explained Kyra Kyles, Managing Editor for JETMag.com. “We wanted to find a way to open up a new avenue to highlight gorgeous women of color and character, meanwhile allowing direct feedback from our visitors on who makes the cut.”
Here’s how to enter our brand new contest. Read the rules carefully before submitting, and best of luck!
Each contestant must submit to digitalbeauty@jetmag.com the following: their full name; one high-resolution photo of themselves in a tasteful bathing suit; Twitter handle; occupation/college major; and a one sentence (20 words or less) explanation as to why they would make an ideal Digital Beauty.
Submissions for this month must be submitted between February 6, 2014 (12:01am Central Time) and February 24, 2014 (11:59pm Central Time). Limit 1 submission per contestant. Contestant must own the photo or otherwise have the right to submit the photograph for consideration in the Contest. All photos should accurately reflect the contestant. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable are adjustments to color, contrast, brightness and sharpness; removal of dust and scratches; cropping; and black and white conversions.
The JET Magazine editorial staff will check out the entries and select 10 contestants, who will be sent to outside judges (of our choosing) who will narrow that down to the 5 finalists. The 5 finalists will be posted to jetmag.com for public vote. (Read: You will have to hustle hard to get friends, families and fans to vote you our Digital Beauty.)
The winner will be featured on this site for one full month before the next round begins. But take heart: All our monthly winners qualify to be considered for a full Beauty of the Week feature in a print edition of JET by the end of the year. Our Editor-in-Chief Mitzi Miller will be the judge and have final say on whether our Digital Beauty makes the leap from the computer screen to the magazine, so submit your absolute best and nothing less.
